How Shyam Hitech radically improved capacity utilization by 40% within 6 Months

Shyam Hitech is a small manufacturing SME supplier based in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Led by veteran mechanical engineer Mr. Shanmugham, they specialize in fabrication and machining jobs. Shyam Hitech’s turnover was Rs. 3.2 Cr in 2017-18. They work almost entirely for just one client – BHEL Trichy. When BHEL’s order book is healthy, Shyam Hitech receives regular work, but when BHEL doesn’t have many orders, the facility remains empty.

This is a common problem for most manufacturing SMEs in India. Despite great manufacturing skills and competencies, they tend to be relatively unknown and struggle to attract a wider portfolio of clients, and reliable streams of orders and revenue. Consequently, their capacities remain massively under-utilized, typically to the tune of 50-60%. The Shyam Hitech example is rather stark - as per their design capacity, they can do Rs. 15-16 Cr of annual turnover, but due to lack of marketing access, they do only Rs. 3-4 Cr today.

Shyam Hitech was one of the earliest SMEs to get onboarded on Zetwerk platform. Whilst Mr. Shanmugham was initially skeptical of how Zetwerk could help him improve his business, today, he has become a firm believer in the Zetwerk model. Over the last 6 months, Shyam Hitech has received over Rs. 1 Cr of orders through Zetwerk alone! Shanmugham has diligently executed and billed 100% of the orders. He projects Shyam Hitech’s turnover at Rs. 4.2 Cr in 2018-19, a handsome 35% increase over last year. Through the Zetwerk platform, without any additional marketing effort or cost, Shyam Hitech regular accesses inquiries from various clients across the country. Shanmugham now looks forward to doubling his business in 2019-20 by executing more orders on Zetwerk!

How Bharat Wires delivered their highest monthly tonnage in 14 years

Bharat Wires is a small manufacturing supplier based in Bhilai, Chattisgarh. It is run by a second generation entrepreneur Mr. Anand Sharma who specializes in simple fabrication jobs. He is a classic Tier 2 supplier, who often takes up outsourced jobs from bigger SMEs (Tier 1 suppliers) in Bhilai and depends on the Tier 1 suppliers to supply raw materials to him. For several years, Bharat Wires has been following this business model and has never ventured to directly access orders from OEM / EPC companies to avoid the working capital hassles of purchasing raw materials directly.

There are thousands of such small and capable manufacturing SME suppliers in India who consider sourcing raw materials directly a major hassle due to working capital issues. Most orders issued by big OEM / EPC companies in India often require large sums of working capital to successfully execute them but smaller SME suppliers don’t enjoy good Over Draft / Cash Credit facilities with banks and NBFCs don’t offer order based financing products either.

Bharat Wires reached out to Zetwerk in October 2018 and after a thorough audit process, he became a supply partner. Zetwerk liked Bharat’s capacity, and Mr. Sharma’s capability and commitment but his financial capability to execute a direct OEM order remained to be seen. A small order (about 20 MT – Rs. 15 Lacs approx.) from an EPC Company was placed on Bharat Wires in November 2018. To solve the working capital problem for Bharat Wires, Zetwerk facilitated an unsecured working capital loan of Rs. 7 Lacs for purchasing raw materials. Anand Sharma delivered the order well ahead of the committed time and Zetwerk’s EPC client was delighted with the performance. Repeat orders followed and in January 2019, Bharat Wires shipped over 100 MT in a single month, his highest tonnage achieved ever in their last 14 years of business!
